Minu POS

Inventory, accounts and a point of sale in one desktop app

Minu runs your shop on your own computers. Sales, stock and double-entry books all live in one database in the shop, so the till keeps selling when the internet doesn't.

Problems Minu solves

  • The internet drops in the middle of the day

Sales, stock and the books keep running locally

  • Several counters, one stock count

Every till shares one hub database over your network

  • A crash halfway through checkout

Each sale is queued and posted exactly once

  • Stock in one app, accounts in another

Stock ledger and double-entry books in one place

  • Fixing mistakes without losing the trail

Corrections post as reversals, so the books stay auditable

Sell at the counter

A keyboard-first sale screen built for a queue: find the item, ring it up, take the money, start the next one.

  • Item search and barcode scanning straight into the sale
  • Several sales open at once in tabs, so a slow customer never holds up the line
  • Repeat a previous bill, process returns and refunds against the original invoice
  • Command palette (Ctrl+K) and a full keyboard shortcut sheet
  • A separate customer display window that mirrors the cart

Take payment and print

Payment, loyalty and printing happen in the same flow, without leaving the till.

  • Payment dialog across the tenders you set up
  • Customers, loyalty programmes and points redemption at checkout
  • Save a bill for the cashier to settle at a separate counter
  • Credit sales invoices and quotations for account customers
  • Thermal receipts and A4 invoices

Shifts and cash under control

Every till runs inside a shift, so the cash in the drawer always has a story behind it.

  • Open a shift with an opening float, close it with a count
  • Record till expenses and bank drops as they happen
  • Shift settlement, shift reconciliation and shift collection reports
  • Return audit and refused-items reports for the manager

Stock you can trust

Every movement of every item lands in an append-only stock ledger with a running balance, updated in the same transaction as the sale or purchase that caused it.

  • Purchase orders and purchase invoices that receive stock
  • Stock entries and stock adjustments by reconciliation
  • Batches with expiry dates, plus near-expiry and batch-expiry reports
  • Reorder suggestions, dead stock and slow/fast-moving reports
  • Brands, item groups, units of measure, price lists and pricing rules

Double-entry accounts built in

Minu keeps its own general ledger, so the books and the stock never live in different systems. Debits equal credits on every voucher.

  • Chart of accounts, fiscal year and default accounts seeded on first run
  • Journal entries and payment entries
  • Trial balance, profit and loss, and balance sheet
  • General ledger, accounts receivable and accounts payable
  • Nothing is edited in place: a mistake is fixed by posting its reversal, so the books stay auditable

Set up in one sitting

There's no server to pull data from, so a first-run wizard sets up the whole shop.

  • Company, chart of accounts, fiscal year and warehouses
  • Tax, tenders, price lists, the terminal and the first operator
  • Import records in bulk from Excel, CSV or TSV files; rows that point at records that don't exist are flagged, not saved
  • Roles and permissions per operator
  • Database credentials encrypted with the operating system's keychain

One hub, any number of tills

One computer in the shop is the hub: it holds the database and posts every document. Tills connect to it over your local network. One shop runs one database, however many counters it has.

  • Tills hold no data and no database credentials
  • Every sale goes into a posting queue first, so a crash between pressing Pay and posting cannot lose it or post it twice
  • A document queue on the hub shows anything that didn't post, with one-click retry
  • Permissions and node roles are checked in the app's main process, not just hidden on screen
Minu hub and till layout One hub computer holds the MariaDB database and the posting engine. Two till computers connect to it over the shop's local network on port 7801 and hold no data of their own. All releases and release notes

Before you install

  • A MariaDB server on the computer that will be your hub. The setup wizard asks for its address and login, and creates Minu's database.
  • A licence key to take sales. Without one, Minu opens read-only. Contact us for a licence.
  • A Windows warning on first run. The installer isn't code-signed yet, so SmartScreen may ask you to confirm: choose More info, then Run anyway.
  • Updates install themselves. Minu checks for new versions and shows Restart to update; it won't restart while a sale is on screen.
  • Internet to activate. After that the licence is verified on the device, so the till opens with or without a connection. Depending on your licence, Minu may need to check in online every so many days.
